Liners with variable interface properties(Read 1446 times)

Hi Roozbeh and all,

Have been having a go at modelling a piled wall with multiple soil layers. As per usual, the interface parameters would be assigned as a ratio of the soil parameters (e.g. δ = 2ɸ'/3), so had a go at putting several liner elements end to end so I could assign different interface properties at each strata.

The catch I ran into is that the elements where the liners join are subject to the same Mohr Columb parameters as the interfaces at the front and rear of the structural elements. This means that rather than treating liner elements joined end to end at structural nodes as continuous, they are treated as being able to slide over each other. I suspect the interface normal and shear moduli are also being applied, but that is much less of a problem.

Suspect there is a hacky solution where I could use a beam element to bridge between the liners, as I think those connections aren't subject to the same issue.

Also, thanks Roozbeh. Both Adonis and Hyrcan are fantastic, but Adonis in particular has given me a way in to learning the basics of FE analysis where I might not have otherwise had the chance.
