Continuity Between Beam Elements(Read 189 times)
Continuity Between Beam Elements on: April 30, 2025, 05:22:43 am
Hello,

Is it possible to model a continuous beam element with differing Beam IDs?
For example, I'm wanting to model a tied-back soldier pile wall which has a concrete-encased footing.
Model 1 - Bare steel: Works as intended. No moment-release/pin noted.
Model 2 - Concrete-encased footing: It doesn't work as intended. There appears to be a moment-release/pin at the junction.

Thank you for your help.

Hi,

You can create a continuous beam with different IDs by simply starting a new beam from an existing node of the previous beam. However, this approach doesn't work for tiebacks. Tiebacks are special beam elements generated using a closed-mode formulation, so they cannot be extended in the same way.
