i believe you could repeat this test with more coherent values this way:

- at first calculate k0 with jaky equation from fi;
- then calculate nu from relation nu = k0/(1+k0) that is the same used by adonis, but inverted;
- define coherent shear and bulk modulus with the above values;
- assign all the calculated values to the soil material used in the simulation.

Hi reversi,
I thought at that possibility but can we consider it theoretically correct?

Ok following the hints of reversi this is the new model (script + comparison).
It's evident the prediction of horizontal effective stress is now fairly accurate with a significant general improvement in the range expected.
So this could be the right way...

Hi all,
this is a slightly modified model from previous one. Geometry can be inspected in the script attached. The goal was to show the necessity of add an extra layer in case of water table hanging through a layer which will assume a saturated density on the submerged part. This need comes because at the moment we have the possibility to insert an unique value of density. As I told above is auspicable Adonis in the future can switch to two distinct density according to the position of water table.
Anyway at this moment, in case of model without water level changes, this limit can be easily overcame as shown in the "comparison" pdf attached as well.

Simone

would you please move the latest topic to "Useful scripts" board? thank you.

To be honest I'm not sure to be able to do that... :-\

what is the problem?

this is a slightly modified model from previous one.
could you publish the values of nu, E and the relations between moduli you used?
i've tried with usual elastic relations but my values don't match with yours.

I used the table given in the following page

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shear_modulus

go to the bottom of the page and find the correlation between E,nu and Shear (G) and Bulk (K) modulus.
there is possibility that you find error in my sheet since I generated it very quick. please double check it and let me know.

i've quoted simone.

what is the problem?

I don't know how to do it

maybe it was too late when i checked those values.

i used the relations published in this document: http://ascelibrary.org/doi/abs/10.1061/9780784412763.026

assumed nu = (1-sin fi)/(2+sin fi) = 0,35

because i didn't know E, i used this relation: 2(1+nu)G = 3(1-2nu)K so for G=1119 and nu=0,35 i've found K=3357.

using nu=0,34 they match fine.
